The Grant Process
The mission of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is to
save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people,
ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the
cures. The Arkansas affiliate strives to accomplish the goals of
this mission by granting funds to other non-profit community
agencies, governmental agencies, and educational institutions within
our defined service area to carry out breast cancer education,
screening, and outreach programs.
Since 1992, the Komen Arkansas Affiliate has raised more than $10
million to fund local breast cancer education, screening, and
treatment programs for the medically underserved. In 2008, we
awarded over $1 million in grants to institutions within our
defined
service area.
The grant process begins in the fall of each year with a Grant
Writing Workshop to help organizations understand the applications
process. Grant Applications, called Requests for Proposals (RFP),
are then accepted and reviewed by a panel of volunteers. The local
Board of Directors then votes on the recommended funding levels at
the February Board meeting, and grant checks are awarded in April.
Our 2008-2009 Grant Cycle will run from April 1, 2008 to March 31,
2009. The application process for this grant cycle has already been
closed. However, we are currently accepting RFP's for our 2009-2010
grant cycle which starts on April 1, 2009 and ends on March 31,
2010. Click here to apply.
Applications will be accepted from any U.S. nonprofit (federally
tax-exempt) organization providing services within the Arkansas
Affiliate defined service area. Projects that specifically address
the gaps identified Komen 2006 Community Profile will be given
priority.
